Natalie,

You are a true inspiration to the craft. Your heart has inspired many and you arn't afraid to speak up on the issues that need to be expressed, whether it be this community or other Poetic communitys....I thank you for sharing this well written article for our eyes to read. I hope that many people will read this and sit back for one moment and think about why they write? What is it that drives them...? Awesome read Natalie......

I have never thought that I will say something like this but
I am against all the principles that you have listed here
I will only highlight your closing phrase:

"The point to all of this is just to say that we should be writing because we enjoy it, because we are in love with creating, not to generate a fan base"

throughout poetry I have met many beautiful friends
and I love them dearly and of course there are some very special souls in my life whom I love even more then my own life. You see, I write for them not for myself because poetry is my gift from my soul to them

"I am not a poet,
Just a humbled pen between
Love’s fingers,
Weaving glowing words into your mind
To brighten the smile of your soul

This is not a verse,
Just a harmonious heart-sigh
From the clouds of language
Unlocking the doors of your heart
To let you feel my emanating love

Come my dear friend,
Harvest the whispers of my lips
And rest upon my Jeweled Dreams
I will tuck you in and
paint the sunset into your eyes…"

You make a valid point however you write for them because you enjoy the feeling it gives them. We all have our own reasons to write. I write to release the anger, anquish, love, -- ALL of the emotions I keep in side. I write to free myself of pain and to celebrate the good things in life. You write to bestow a gift upon others because it makes you happy that it makes them happy....so I don't see your arguement. You write for all the right reasons...the reasons I've listed in my ramble. Every person is different, we're all here for different reasons...what ties us together is being here because we love what it does for us and/or others.

Nat
I'm so glad that you wrote this article because it shows that you are a "true artist." This article is very well written and expressed. I hope that people will give thought to why it is they write and look within themselves and ask, "why am I here?" Again, very well written and a joy to read.

"what ties us together is being here because we love what it does for us and/or others"

Amen to that dear one!

In the midst of evolving into a poet one can get lost in the praise of others. It can be easy to soak up the excitement of fictitious words spoken by poets who merely want the same response from you. The key to being a true artist (of any kind) is to be drawn in because you love it

^and you are so right, nice article throughout, what size ring do you wear...Lmao, Love ya kiddo...Be safe
