Now we're back to the beginning,
its just a feeling and no one knows
yet, but just because they can't
feel it too, doesn't mean that you
have to forget....

Love is
friendship on
fire. **** December 5th
1917 Isla, I earnestly
and unequivocally believe that we
are nearing the end of this war.
Never before have I felt so
unambiguously of anything. It is as
if a fire of intuition and credence
is spreading through my essence. It
was only yesterday that we were
fighting in the carnage of
Passchendaele, which indubitably
assured the outcome of this war,
though we were ignorant of the fact
then. The soldiers and I
were frenzied to finally return to
the safety of the trenches at the
conclusion of the melee, even
though the skies were still awash
with aerial dogfights. We all held
our breath when we saw the Red
Baron’s plane fly over. The
mud was up to our knees and the air
was freezing and biting, yet we
found ourselves smiling and
subconsciously dreaming of home. I
cannot wait to see you again, the
day in which we shall be reunited
will be euphoric for me, as well as
for you I’m sure.
I expect Halifax is much as I left
it. Nothing much changes there,
though I suspect that the war has
tainted it, as it seems to taint
everything that once was sweet.
How is your work? Nursing for the
Red Cross must be just as stressful
and exasperating as fighting on the
front line. However, much more
advantageous, I expect, since you
get to save lives and I am told to
end them. It saddens me that I will
come out of this a murderer. You
would probably have traded spots
with me if they let women fight. I
know how trapped and helpless you
feel, but I’ll be home soon
and then you’ll no longer
be alone. I’ll be with you
soon.
