When Darkness Reigns

by Once an Angel   Apr 10, 2014

A shadow has come to stay with me,
Crawling and clawing into my bed at night.
It seductively nuzzles my insecurities,
And makes love to my deepest pains.

It's a vile of darkness from the past,
Uncorked and poured over my soul once more,
Spreading like a stain of ink it engulfs me,
Threatening that I will never be whole again.

Stirring up memories of the time it reigned,
And corrupted my mind with the touch of chaos.
I cannot separate its desires from my own,
I cannot remember why I must not succumb.

Out of my dreams and into wakefulness,
It is enhancing the madness I try to escape.
The whispers of what horrors I am capable,
Encourages my conscience's suicide.

Once I chose the path this darkness gave me,
Committed to follow until the very end.
But now it comes of its own accord,
Unsummoned, because I tried to live again.

The once private battle is now bleeding
Into ever tiny corner of my life.
Chaining me into the bandage slave,
Of this shadow slowly consuming my life.
