Explain away the darkness

by Darren   Aug 13, 2014

Ever felt a head so heavy
it flops from one side
then the other
attempting to spin
desperate to hide
but exposed upon a neck.

The birds wake me
squealing and arguing
trivialising morning
the sun arrived
disappointment dawns.

There is a feeling
that everybody is looking
Florentine plague masks
boring holes in my confidence.

Peoples conversations
bounce around my empty mind
answers fail to leave my mouth.

Thoughts of something else
another world or plane.

Offer freedom.

Often, headaches are just explosions in our head from being annoyed by people's antics. Or a hangover, ha!
Your wording is unique here and you did a great job in explaining what a headache truly is like. You just want the world to be quiet. But everything simple thing that you loved, makes it grow and grow. Love the morning line, it is true that sometimes we are disappointed that the day has started because we are not ready to face it at all. The ending I love. Thoughts are often helpful when they are our own. Other objects or people are just "in the way". That's what I think you mean here. Great write. Edit- thanks for pointing that out. It makes a lot more sense now. Darkness can be interpreted in so many ways. Ie. Depression or " no light". Or even anxiety which can be here. You feel people are always watching and that drives you deeper and deeper into madness which could have worked with headache. Great change.

Thanks James, I was just about to change the word headache to darkness.

      I appreciate your comment.
