Nightmares

by Rob   Aug 30, 2014

As darkness approaches the fear begins,
Its a panic only evil can bring,
Night after night the same ole song,
Hearing fear as the demon screams...

You don't want to see ~ so you just close your eyes,
And you are too afraid to weep,
You know that now with the lights out,
Its your soul they'll want to keep...

You fight the desire to greet the night,
But your mind is spun straight to black,
You scream out loud which does no good,
And you know there is no turning back...

Alone and afraid with nowhere to run,
You feel your heartbeat rise,
No one cares that you're all alone,
And there's no one to hear your deafening cries...

The air is so cold and so pungent,
You know that they are finally here,
Despite the anguish you feel inside,
And its bringing you right to tears...
†
Blood runs thin and weak through your veins,
Your heart takes one long step back,
They warned you again not to come here,
Where the darkness is Gothic and black...

But all you did was turn out the lights,
And climb far up into your bed,
And again the Spirits remind you,
It will be everything that you dread...

The nightmares will never cease their haunt,
It fills your life with gloom,
That you know eventually will take you away,
Far and beyond any sense of your doom...

So close your eyes tight and shed a few tears,
You know that they rise from the dead,
You flirted just once too often,
And the Spirits are deep in your head...

You gasp for a breath that just won't come,
You know this nights just like the rest,
And one more time again for you,
The Spirits take you again to death...

It is time to give in and surrender,
To their way as you give to their needs,
Like so many times before,
In your nightmare they plant their seed...
And its over...

So well written... Nightmares become worse if you ever have a precognitive dream

Nightmares can be really frightening and make you weep.....and the worst part is when you cry while you are sleeping
The poem portrays the fear of nightmares extremely well and I could kinda relate to it...
