Without The Rules

by Baby Rainbow   Nov 14, 2015

I made you so many promises
that you knew I couldn't keep,
like crying or no reason,
or my reflexes screaming from pain.

Sometimes I think I forgot
to listen thoroughly to your rules,
but other times I'd understand them crystal clear
because you'd make me write them out
a hundred times and more,
then memorise them line by line,
then verbally and pitch-perfectly repeat!

What scares me the most
is that when you do come back for me,
which I know you will,
I gave too little thought
to keep memorising every line since you've been gone,
because I know I will now get it wrong,
and without knowing all of the rules,
everything else I have learned
becomes worthless.
