Desert Lizard

"Desert Lizard"

Put a pen
In my hand

My skin is as dry
as a desert lizard

Eyes tight
like ripples in rugs

Cracked teeth
pointed and gaping

Saliva hangs
dangles forever

Torpedo tongue
misses and releases powdery dust

Decorated by discolored
uneven picket fence spines

Red raspy throat
Dewlap protrudes wisdom

Rose blossom cheeks
Subtympanic shields

Cold blooded blood
Warms bubbles and boils

Stove top earth glows
Lifting alternate perpendicular limbs

Tail stiffens
losing direction

Mind checks out
Body tilts and spirals

Kersplash!
Swallowed up into a hot spring....
