Mother Must Not Bake That Night

Mother Must Not Bake That night

Amy's eyes were twinkling starry;
cupid's arrow struck her heart,
Tommy was the boy inspiring,
Amy's love to have a spark.

She would swoon anticipating,
her and Tommy's love entwined,
She would guide this love while waiting,
for a place where it could shine.

On an evening, she determined,
to bring Tommy by her home,
Introduce him to the family,
was the plan that she now owned.

Yet she knew, his love was fragile,
saying to herself out right,
I will have to stop my Mother,
"Mother must not bake that night".

Amy's Mother had good intentions,
so she tried her best to please,
She would bake up breads and cookies,
gave them out for all to eat.

Her dishes came out mostly muddled,
her neighbors all would break and run,
No one dared to eat her cooking;
she liked to nip on gin and rum.

She started out with good objectives,
but she followed the same route,
She was loud and messy sober,
twice as bad when she was soused.

If Tommy seen her in this manner,
her cursing everything in sight,
T'would overwhelm his heart so tender,
"Mother must not bake that night".

Amy made her case to Papa,
spoke of the boy she loved so dear,
Talked of hopes of love and marriage,
laid out all her hidden fears.

She explained a heart so tender,
could not ore-come such a display,
They'd be no chance for matrimony,
The boy would surely walk away.

Papa sighed and said, "sweet Amy,"
knowing his wife loved the gin,
"I will keep her from the kitchen;
I'll have pizzas ordered in".

Amy smiled and sighed a big breath;
relieved Papa seen her plight,
Things would work the way she wanted,
"Mother would not bake that night".

Amy dressed from top to bottom,
with every hair plus bow in place,
Tommy's coming any minute;
she walked down stairs to quietly wait.

She heard clinging clanging banging,
wide-eyed Amy stopped and stared,
Mother's cursing in the kitchen;
Papa's snoozing in his chair.

My gosh she thought, no pizza's coming,
and Tommy's dew at any time,
The kitchen's messed up worse than Mother,
who was flat out drunk on wine.

The doorbell rang her heart pounding,
no way to hide this from his sight,
"Answer the bleeping door somebody,
I'm bleeping cooking here tonight".
