You bet!

by Arunansu   Nov 3, 2007

One winter morning
back from a stroll
I spotted my nephew Brian, wailing!

In between his whimpers, the poor thing
managed to utter he lost five bucks.
I handed him the sum to see a sunny smile.

Yet he howled, louder than before, "instead of a gain
I lost my five . . . all because of YOU!!"

To my askance, he narrated a strange story
interspersed by his whines.

"See those pebbles, pieces of stones near the entrance,
Joe and I sprayed them measurably . . . so that you may fall . . .
that would have rewarded me five bucks . . . as per the bet . . .
yet you didn't slip . . . and Joe took-all-the-money-awaaay!!!"

You bet, this is one bitter-sweet moment.

But more was in store.

When I met Joe, he was relishing a bite,
"Hi Uncle, how is Brian? A cry-baby, he is!
Tell him not to worry
next time I myself will bet for your fall!"

I gave this brat a long, long, close look.
