The Fall of Icarus

by AshleyMarie

We go through life
In a daze.
Going through motions,
Through acts.
Not really seeing or caring.
The boy down the street who lost his mother,
Or the old lady next door who was diagnosed with cancer
Are just people, they don't matter.
You pass them by,
Never bothering to ask how they are,
How they are feeling.
Death is just life,
And life goes on.
If a boy was to fall from the sky,
Feathers from invented wings
Scattering over the blue ocean waves,
His father crying out his name,
No one would notice.
There still would be fish to catch,
Fields to plough,
Places to go.
Life would flow on.

--For Writers Craft. We had to read the myth of Daedalus and Icarus and write a lyric poem about it.
