This World

by Countess of Monte Cristo   Apr 13, 2010

This world is full of temptations,
Filled with the facade that harmful things serve as a cure.
It takes strength to stay on the right path,
It takes will to keep one's soul pure.

Don't call yourself a victim in order to destroy yourself,
Do not blame the circumstances and the times.
You are responsible for what you do at the end of the day,
You will pay the due for your crimes.

Keep your head on your shoulders,
And fix your glance on the prize.
All those temptations will seem so trivial,
They'll magically disappear before your eyes.

A defeatist attitude is not one which I believe in,
You falling down means you have to quickly rise.
After the thunders and the hurricanes,
The sun yet again brightens the skies.

Though this world is full of temptations,
Things that harm you are never the cure.
And despite the corruption and the rottenness that is prevalent,
The true survivor maintains a soul that is pure.

*We are all hit by hard circumstances, but they ought never serve as a justification for our shortfalls..It is we who are responsible for who we become.

We are responsible for what happens to us and if we do fall we must rise up and learn from that. Well done.

Beautiful :] I love your ideas and how you never hold them back or sugar coat them. You are one of the most creative thinkers I know and it's such a pleasure to be able to read your work all the time and hopefully try to learn how to be half of the poet you are. Amazing work really :] Nik
