I am the Suicide Statistics

I am the statue standing unnoticed
by the people that rush the streets

I'm the bruises and cuts that
mommy tries from her children hide

I'm the night, the space:
the distance between light and life

I'm the gay youth coming out,
which everyone just calls a phase

I am every trans-person,
every victim of murder, assault, and hate crimes.

I am the suicide statistics,
I am Tyler Clementi

I am the voice of every tortured youth
being drowned out by the Olympics

I am every non-white non-man,
too afraid to even walk outside

I am every trans-person,
and until the violence ends I will know no pride.

I am the invisible --
I am the elephant in the room

I am everyone who suffers oppression
and no-one listens to me.

I am the suicide statistics,
and no-one listens to me.

Excellent poem, very expressive. It brings to focus a sad truth about society, hopefully things will change. Great work, 5/5. :)
