Hear me now.

by Poet on the Piano   May 16, 2014

Long ago, hope beckoned us like bold flags that waved
miles beyond life's canyon and death's valley.
I am a bandaged soldier that needs to be saved
for I do not carry prayers to shield me from the finale.

May I ask for your blessing? Please don't hate me for this,
I don't cry out your name every day or every week.
Your voice (all I craved) has too often become remiss
though I reckon you are simply waiting for me to speak.

Courage has never harmonized with me before
but tonight, I will hear the frightening refrains,
the ones my soul became too afraid of to explore.
Tonight, I will cross the rocky, arduous terrains.

My determination is running on empty, fading,
words and melodies lodged inside my throat,
yet you will save me from toxic thoughts invading
bringing me back to a breath I am able to denote.

Tried something different, rhyming, which I rarely do. Also took the title from Secondhand Serenade's album titled "Hear Me Now". Wrote this poem while listening to their album.

I love that album and I can definitely see the ties to it in this piece. The piece itself is wonderful as are all of your brilliant works, but I like how you tried rhyming, it doesn't feel forced at all and it really smoothed out the flow compared to some rhyming pieces. I really like the intro to this piece. Great job.
