THE ESSENCE OF TIME

by Robert Daniel Long   May 30, 2014

Like the endless waves
That beat against the shore
Time beats endlessly
Through our lives

From the moment that we're born
Until the time that we pass
From this world

Everything that we do
Will be shaped by time

Nothing happens
Until the moment it was supposed to
The daily grind
Is broken down into increments
Pressing the essence from each second

And if it were liquid
We would drown in the deluge

As I look across the span
Of what time is, in our lives
I have noticed
That we don't take time to smell the roses
Anymore
We're lost in the haze
That has been brought in
Through the neglect of the time we have

So, like the waves that lap at the beach
Let us begin to use the time that we have
Wisely

Because each second that passes
Is one that is lost evermore
Never to be seen or touched again

And it's one
That we could have made a difference in
