Bent Bones

by Kitty Kurse   Aug 6, 2014

Discriminate me, for we share the same blood and genetic bonds-
But, I am only human.
A human,
One in one we are all the same;
One human,
A human,
Me.

So treat me as you may,
Beat me as you believe need be.
Bend me in ways you believe I should be.
Pull back all that remains;
And leave me bare to the bone,
Throw me away at sea.

Try as you would like,
Say what you conceive in your despicable mind,
Though every morning I will wake up,
I will remember,
I am,
Me.

As I look in the mirror every day,
I will know my back bone is stronger-
Stronger then what you believed I could be.
Throw me away at sea,
I will only use the water,
To wash away pain and remembrance-
Come back clean.

Looking back over the sand bar,
We will still just be,
Human.
One in the same though all I see is,
Shared blood and broken remains.

    This is sad yet hopeful.
