Harvest

by charlie   Mar 3, 2015

"by gee! you make that look easy, fella"
and i just rolled out a goofy grin, all glad
for the grazes and new rasorial arms.
a perfect day on howeths road,
we come to help a neighbour bring in hay
'fore bringing out beer... high up
on a saturday, with blue tipped wrens fidgeting
on fence posts with wire drooping...
the old men jostle insults coz they love each other -
in the bristled way that brothers do -
and they sweat in the sun and say:
"by gee! that breeze is good" when the breeze
lifts up and we are shin deep in stubble
with the clover pushing up and me, the young pup
thinking: "gee! you make it look easy, fellas..."
