My Life No Longer Mine (POW)

by VP Cruz   Mar 29, 2015

My arm extended, I am with fear
I am losing, what all hold so dear
You extend yours, as you begin to tear
My time has come, what we all most fear
My body is broken, but that's the least of my worries
The only thing in mind, those horrific stories
I saw your eyes, brother, you did your part
With full intentions, I saw your heart
Your faces evanescent, in the attic of my mind
Of your selfless attempt, to not leave me behind
Consumed by the jungle, is only half the plight
Deep within the mists, hidden from all sight
We question salvation, its long delay
Our hopes weaken, strong feelings of betray
My captor's mercy, my life no longer mine
As time drags on, glimmers of hope declines
Wide, their eyes, souls of the robbed
The nights are long, their disbelieving sobs
This way of life, not a clue of its existence
Make men of strong lesser, conquer their persistence
At nights I dream, of whatever sleep
At least that's one thing, that's ours to keep
I reach to grasp the familiar faces
The experience so real, the people...the places
Rudely awakened by a bucket of water
Reality kicks in, so begins the horror
