Hippocampus (Acrostic)

by Mr. Darcy   Aug 23, 2015

His smile is captivating -
It lights up his etched face;
Providing an illusion.
Perceived recognition
Only.
Crazy, some say...
Actually, it's nature,
Melting away consciousness,
Plucking memories away
Until, all is left is his
Smile.

Watching a person wilt away due to dementia is slow agony for their loved ones and I imagine scary as hell for the sufferer.

    Dear Michael,

An intelligent write and so poignant.
To lose our mind is the worst nightmare ever. If only people knew how closely related it is to eating meat and dairy!
When the arteries to the brain are clogged up by saturated fats, out go the lights;)
    Well done,

    (((hugs)))

Wow the way you have written this poem is really vivid in your illustration. I can see the smile upon his face and the thought provoking memories of this man. You described it so well.
    P.S.
    Your pets are cute!

Michael - this is brilliant, truly. So clever. My biology isn't great, but isn't the hippocampus some part of the brain relating to memory? Your poem suggests I may be right, or I have misunderstood it completely!
Absolutely excellent! Best acrostic I have read on this site.
