Bird Cage

The Bird Cage

When will you learn?

There are no barriers or bars
Except the ones we build ourselves
No regret ever born out of
Standing still in a shelter.
Press your face to the glass
And feel big in your kingdom
For how small the world looks
When viewed from inside out

When did you learn?

There are birds that dream of freedom
Birds who accept their fate
And those that fly at the window
Throwing themselves at escape
They scrape their wings on tomorrows
And lie dazed when cut by denial
They break themselves over
Others that only seek to mend them
