Speak mirror! speak!

by The Po whet   May 19, 2016

Speak mirror!speak!
tell me of the old secrets
you've seen but remained
forever mum.
Secrets that even the royals
have dutifully and faithfully
entrusted you with
only you.
for you can never tell a soul
dead or alive
ghostly nor the gods.
Speak mirror! speak!
tell me tales
of the beauty you've
laid sight upon for eons;
from the times of Sheba
until
the present times
when all glitters
but a plethora are pyrite.
Speak mirror! speak!
did Hercules ever
stood before you
and spoke with weakness
''today I fear this beckoning battle''
Speak!
for I wish to know if
if weakness is not for all mortals.
Speak mirror!speak!
for I need to know
whether the queen is
of no concern
when her smile is considered
not ''noble''
or does she practice all day
only but to your amusement?
Speak mirror! speak!
tell me not of others secrets
there are a many I'd be glad to know
but the truth I'm afraid
will bring me down on my knees.
Speak mirror!speak!
speak unto me of my secrets
my imperfections
that I've so shamelessly
exposed before your
very glare.
speak unto my fears,
tell me
it's okay not to be perfect.
but rather walk with my head up
towering to the heavens,
because all that have stood before you
great and small
none has ever been close to perfection.

I had to read this poem twice and each time i can't get over how beautifully written it is. I red between the lines and the mirror is more than a reflection of ourselves. It reminds me of when i was a little girl and looking at the painted pictures of my grandparents home. The pictures were so vivid like i can almost see the soul of the image.
    My favorite stanza is this:

"but rather walk with my head up
    towering to the heavens,
because all that have stood before you
    great and small
none has ever been close to perfection.

Again, i like the way you uses mirror in a way that it could be an object or even a place where someone is allowed to be themselves. Very well done. Kel.

Moa, I like the idea of this. Of mirrors everywhere holding secrets about their 'owners'

The imagery is good and there's alot of food for thought here. You have a great talent though I'm sure you know that :)

I especially love this part because is so meaningful and true. Not one of us is perfect and if anyone says otherwise then they are obviously distorted. I think each one of us is perfectly imperfect.

    Great work, Em
