Hate

by Brenda   Jun 21, 2016

It's amongst us
filling our veins
creeping into our hearts
making a home there
quite content
with the chaos
it causes...
hate is like
incestuous rats
prolifically breeding
spreading its disease
far and wide...
our children aren't born
to hate
we teach them hate
with our words
our actions
against our fellow man
we hate for their differences
for how some-one looks
their beliefs...
we kill over a pair of shoes
the car you drive
the lifestyle you live
we kill in the name of God
of Allah
of whomever your personal
God may be
while all this is going on
our oceans are choking
our lands
are being scorched
in the name of what?
for what?
to claim dominance
over another?
we need to purge
the hate
that has settled
so cozily
into our hearts
we need to accept
one another
celebrate
our differences
make this world whole again...

A desperate plea, I see this as, that needs to be heard across the world. None of us chose to be born within a particular border; none of us chose the color of our skin, or to be born rich or poor. We are all in this struggle together, and we will succeed in working together. The only thing, as you mention, I think holds us back -- is religion. A shame that something so positive and romantic is used degenerately.

This poem utilizes your wonderful vocabulary, and flows easily in the reader's mind. Spectacular!

Thank you Stephen for your thoughtful comments. It is sad we can't just be nice to each other. Generation after generation learning hate all over again, and for what?

This is just a message from the heart! Seems like a stream of water releasing itself heartily. I love this bit this most,

    "our children aren't born
    to hate
    we teach them hate
    with our words
    our actions
    against our fellow man
    we hate for their differences
    for how some-one looks
    their beliefs..."

    Keep them coming!

This poem is a powerful Life Poem!

It reads like a political rap/rant and written in a very tasteful way...

You can feel the anger and sadness-

The flow and rhythm is outstanding and with a poem such as this, It has to flow or it fails... broken lines kill the flow and Brenda shocked me this week! The flow was spot on!!

I read this poem and I said, out loud "Damn"

    Scream it Woman!!

    The message speaks for itself,
Hate is a plague within Society
and it's killing souls of humanity.

Brenda's closing lines tie this explosive poem together.. Wonderful write and well written!

Brenda, this is an enthralling, powerful write with a great message that (and I'm not religious) we should love our neighbours because if we look closely we are all the same just in different bodies.

    our children aren't born
    to hate
    we teach them hate
    with our words
    our actions
    against our fellow man
    we hate for their differences
    for how some-one looks
    their beliefs...
    ^^
This is the most powerful part because I believe it to be true for some people. Very deep. I also love the reference to rats.

    Fantastic write, nominated.

Thank you so much Em! I really appreciate the nomination too! I like to think we are part of the same race, the human one-so why all the conflict? I've always believed our children are what we teach them-if they are spoonfed hate all their lives they grow up teaching their children the same. Sad state of affairs we deal with. I'm really glad you liked it-take care-Brenda
