Sleeves

by Domenico Sottile   Nov 25, 2016

There is freedom in departing
From far away we learn we were once one
with horses... cows... donkeys...
To know it is like to break away from prison
and overcome
finally
the longing for a homeland

We learn a withered flower is still a flower
thus no need for pain
we look at the open petals of a young rose
the hope for another day
where the worst moments are not so bad
and we realize that even death in the desert fire
will be flushed by rain

With sunsets of fire on the terraces
snowfalls on hills covered by the bitter-sweet of life
we learn that even a honey-moon with one's solitude
can be so tender
and perhaps no system..rule..or constitution
can free us from ourselves

What do we do when we realize
there is no supernatural entity
to protect our weakness?
Will we roll up our sleeves
and fix our hearts
to discover we are the ones
who can perform miracles?
