Heartbreak Ridge (Extended sonnet)

by Mr. Darcy & Golden AnGel Rhapsodist   Jan 9, 2017

~ Heartbreak Ridge ~

A whirlwind in her head raises her heels,

Ev'ry time her inner circle claw her mind.

She runs right to the edge of how she feels,

It's here up on the ridge where she can cry.

She heard a noise and saw a handsome boy;

He gave his handkerchief to dry her eyes,

Her heart began to swell with love and joy -

His soul was pure, it needed no disguise.

For weeks they met upon their graveled view,

Until one day she took a diff'rent path;

On the bend beneath a tree, a face she knew

Upon a white gravestone, his epitaph:

:: Here lies a man who died before his prime,
::
:: Preventing dark abuse of a young maid;
::
:: Fearlessly he fought this callous crime,
::
:: But in the fight, himself he could not save.

She ran and screamed in grief, "How could this be?"

Up to the place he fought that fateful sin.

The sky ahead whispered eternity,

and with a leap she sealed her life with him.

~ ~ ~

:: A life without such love will hurt the most -
::
:: A leap of faith to love as wedded ghosts.

    Hello, Sir.

    I think this story holds great attention and beauty on many levels, because you have portrayed the faith of love in a very graceful way. I like reading this one, specially I like that appealing ending. This job shows how well you have a control over the words and sentences. Love can do anything to anyone, anywhere.

    Excellent Sonnet from both the talented writer.

    Best of luck to both of you for the contest.
