Gangsta's prayer

by Kruleheart

NOW I LAY ME DOWN TO SLEEP,
PROTECT ME GOD FROM THOSE WHO CREEP
WITH EVIL PLOTS AND WICKED SCHEMES
TO SNATCH ME FROM MY RESTFUL DREAMS.
I KNOW THERE'S BAD THINGS I HAVE DONE
THAT'S WHY I'M SLEEPING WITH MY GUN,
AND IF I SHOULD BE STARTLED FROM MY PEACEFUL SLUMBER
MY GUN WILL ROAR LIKE BLASTS OF THUNDER.
GOT TO FIGHT TO LIVE JUST ONE MORE DAY
SO MANY THINGS TO DO SO MANY WORDS TO SAY.
BUT IF IT'S MY TIME TO GO AND MY LIFE'S TO BE TAKEN
JUST LEAVE ME IN MY DREAMS, NEVER TO BE AWAKENED.
MY WHOLE LIFE'S A CONSTANT STRUGGLE
FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE;
GOT ME THINKING LIKE A CRIMINAL
SICK OF BEING TREATED LIKE A SLAVE.
I MUST BEHAVE LIKE A SOLDIER
'CAUSE THE WORLD KEEPS GETTING COLDER.
GOT ME PEEPING OUT THE WINDOW
AND LOOKING OVER MY SHOULDER.

FORGIVE ME LORD, I KNOW I HAVE SINNED
BUT YOU ALONE KNOWS THE PLACES I HAVE BEEN.
THE WORDS THAT I HEARD AND THE ACTIONS I SAW,
MADE ME LEARN HOW TO RUN BEFORE I COULD CRAWL.
YOU CAN'T GROW UP AROUND HERE
AND REMAIN UNCHANGEDAND UNBLEMISHED:
THE VIOLENCE IS GRAPHIC AND THE CRIMES ARE HORRENDOUS.
IS THERE REPENTANCE FOR A THUG?
IS THERE A HEAVEN FOR A GANGSTER?
COULD I GIVE MY MOM A HUG?
BEFORE I GO I'D LIKE TO THANK HER.
MY FIRST PARTNER IN THIS FIGHT.
AGAINST ALL ODDS WE BEGAN OUR PLIGHT-
TO SURVIVE IN A PLACE
WHERE STAYING ALIVE IS A CONSTANT RACE.
WATCH MY BACK AND TRUST NO MAN.
BEWARE OF LUST, I MUST UNDERSTAND.
THERE'LL BE PROBLEMS ALONG THE WAY.
I MIGHT NOT SOLVE THEM ALL IN JUST ONE DAY.
BY STAYING TRUE AND REMAINING STRONG,
I WOULD MAKE IT THROUGH. I MUST CARRY ON.
NO TIME TO CRY BECAUSE THE TROUBLES NEVER END,
JUST HOLD MY HEAD HIGH SO MY BACK DOESN'T BEND.

I LOVE MY MOM FOR ALL THE TRAINING
AND THE LESSONS I WAS TAUGHT.
TO ME THEY'RE WORTH A PRICELESS PAINTING
THAT GAME COULDN'T HAVE BEEN BOUGHT.
OH,DEAR FATHER...PLEASE PROTECT HER,
GIVE HER STRENGTH WHEN I'M LONG GONE.
WHEN SHE'S TROUBLED PLEASE DIRECT HER.
EVERY NIGHT ENDS WITH A BRAND NEW DAWN.

This poem is so touchin, it really tells the true gangsta life from the ghetto. the poet got me cryin and thinkin of my life back in the day when my pops was a no show and mama had to do everythin solo. life ain't that fair like when you got nobdy sayin i am so proud of you, you kinda feel out of place and end up doin bad things. this is too dope.

This is a great poem, it reflects the real street life and untold suffering of abandoned kids. my father did the same to me and i grew up so sad. i turned to be a very violent person but with God i am now a better person than before.
