The Flame

by Arunansu   Oct 13, 2007

[Earlier written as "Candle", this is a modified version. Hope you will like it.]

A wretched power-cut paid
a nocturnal visit yesterday; and
the candle had to
toil throughout gloomy hours.

My passionate mind also burned alike
looking at her picture.

The flame descended leisurely
thawing frigid pillars of faded sentiments
on its way.

Molten empathies
dripped downhill
in jets of a stagnant fountain.

My thoughts stayed awake,
till it was time for a Sunrise
in the lap of darkness.

It was time
for darkness to have some sleep.

Burning wick got doused;
traces of smoke
performed last rites of the burn.

My yearning too, got buried.

Oddments
of strange wax sculptures
and my latent desires
now languish, praying for a Resurrection.

Yet the burning globe,
other civilized lights
and day long reveries
will strive to ensure
such flames
remain dormant.
