Abortion

by KeyxMashingxParody   Apr 2, 2009

The time is right,
It's time for my cycle.
Where is it?
Stolen by a child?

It seems I am!
I am with child!
I can only cry,
There's no will to smile!

The doctor once told me,
Motherhood is an illusion.
If I want to get rid of it,
I can have an abortion.

The doctor told me,
It's safe and alright.
That it wouldn't take long,
And I'll stay over night.

He said the baby wont feel it,
The child will be okay.
We just have to pull it out,
Then give the doctor his pay.

I agreed to the abortion,
I went in just yesterday.
The same doctor helped me to my room,
And we began right away.

The doctor looked different,
But smiled all the same.
He said that I'll be fine,
And reassured me there was no pain.

It's time to remove the child,
The doctor said.
Since you want it out,
I'll just rip off it's head.

I'll slowly reach inside of you,
Grabbing the little limbs.
Breaking each bone easily,
As if only breaking pens.

All the blood is normal,
The doctor reassured.
It is the baby's blood,
Trust me, it isn't yours.

We're almost done here,
The baby is already dead.
I looked to my side,
To see my baby's head.

It was without a body,
It's face, just like mine.
I stared for what seemed forever,
Then I began to cry.

What have I done!
I have killed my baby!
I want to go back,
I want my baby with me!

The doctor turned around,
And looked me in the eyes.
I'm sorry, he said,
But this baby has already died.

This poem is so very controvertial, and I must say you've written your opinions seamlessly on this subject. I'm pro-choice and have done research for my reasoning. Yet, you still gave me chills. That's what a good poet does for me, makes me rethink my very own beliefs. Great job!

Wow... striking poem; very strong. Its nice how the poem got deeper and more serious, reaching a climax and then ending with sort of a twist. The second to last stanza was a bit off for me, but other than that, nice work.
