Gary

by Bill Turner   Feb 12, 2008

You chose to drown your demons
Pushed them down, buried inside
Drank yourself blind each day
Always answering the bell
Coming to work ready for anything

Reaching out to you, pushed away
Choosing to bury the specters of Nam
Family and friends driven off with words
We would not leave your side, partners
Trying to chip away at the facade

Fighting side by side sometimes for it all
You never flinched, standing by our side
One night you did not show, causing us alarm
Pounding on the door afraid to see
Blood on the floor, blood everywhere

Dead on the bed, covered in blood
You drank yourself to death
Taking away a part of me
My friend I shall always miss you
Wondering what else I could have done
