Unspeakable crimes of the heart

by Samantha lynn   Mar 11, 2008

I wake in the night
wrapped in the arms of a lover
listening to the sound of his slow
shallow breathing and watch
the motion of his sleeping chest
and the painted smile he keeps
even in his deepest dreams.
the moon reflects into a thousand
brilliant rainbows across the ceiling
as a cold chill runs down my bare spine.

HE pulls me tighter, safer
and I trace a gentle finger over
his adoring cheek and giving lips,
and can't help but know tonight he can
take care of me like nothing else
in this jade world that is reality.

I try to fall back into dreams
and believe that there are still chances
for slow dances and romances
like a child's fairytale
playing in the back of my mind.
and yet, when my eyes close,
the face I see in dreams
and the name that whispers
through the lines lost in my head
is that of the man long lost
and never forgotten
not the man
I lie against tonight.
