Grow Up

by allidoiswrite82   Apr 1, 2008

He said that he was 30 yrs old
but a thirty year old men
don't do the things that he does
I mean could you imagine your 30yr old
friend or uncle cousin brother or even father
hangout out at a local high school waving at young girls
talking about he's patient
And he don't mind waiting
Man you got to be kidding me
Not only is that wrong but what your doing is also felony
But then again you do live in your mothers basement
And when your boys ask you when your plan growing up
you say "Dog I still pay rent"
He pays rent
But I guess thats the least you could do
when your mother still cooks and cleans for you
And has to tell you when to take the garbage out-line
the last time that you did something and
weren't told three or four times
Its about time
That you decide that your gonna do
something that real men do
And I not just talking to basement Bobs
I'm also preaching to those father slobs
Who intentionally rob
Their children
Father figure
Then they properly figure
That growing up fatherless
Actually part of this
Thing that we call family togetherness
So the cycle never ends
And it could have ended with you
but you decided that drinking shooting pool
was more cool
Then being there for you child
And walking them to school
So 18 yrs down the road when they want nothing to do with you
And you look back wondering where you went wrong
Just remember this poem

And maybe if your old enough now
maybe you should write this poem down
mail it or take it to him and say look at this poem

And if you don't know him
then don't let him in your life
and don't you be a part of his
and if he come around 20yrs trying to shake your hand
Say naw kid nothing personal just family biz

Now to get back to those 30yr old kids
Lets hit the checklist
We got Basement Bobs
And father slobs

Next on the agenda is the 30yr old mob
You know the type the throw back jersey wearing
Pants sagging
Throwing up signs in their station wagon
The corner hanging
So called gang banging
Crack slanging
The I'm just doing my thing
Past their prime
Spitting simple rhymes
Like a record deal is going to fall from the sky
30yr old has-beens
Who have not been

living up to their potential
thats God given
thats deep within
properly buried under all the stuff that
You've done from ten to now

the 30 yr old mob
The type that sit in front of the corner store
in 30 below
zero
with no where to go
so they sit and they selling blow
To the community killing it slow

Don't you think its time to grow-up
To be come a grown up

A real grown up one that pays the bills on time
Going to work
and giving his last dime
to his child
And thats not a problem

So lets see have we spoken on all of them
We have the Basement Bob
The Father slobs
and the 30yr old mob

And lets not forget the I cant get a job, Man
The " Nobody wants to hire me
cause I'm from an inferior society"
I'm tired of grown men using this a crutch to be
The most lazy people
On either side of the Mississippi
I swear if nothing else gets to me
its watching people do nothing and seeing their complacency
It has nothing to do with race you see
it comes down to personality
They need to come out of it like an a comma
to use an analogue

and I'll tell you another fallacy
the stereotypical mentalities
The I've been this way for 30yrs cant nothing change me
These 30yr old kids need to grow up and start to live

Good message, not your best I think, but definitely not bad. Very long....but I still read it all...which I sometimes don't, I think the first long stanza was my favorite...another good job.
