Intellectual Dungeon

by Mike Wilburn   Apr 14, 2008

Walls built over numerous years
Many souls many tears
Family and friends, cherished recollections
Countless imperfections, objections and rejections
They drift away, searching, the turmoil of being
A myriad of reasons, some foreseeing possibly freeing
Sometimes not, impassable disparity
Disagreement and irreconcilable polarity

Introspection begets both joy and pain
Thoughts that torture the brain
Images encumbering my mind
Various corridors intertwined

Mental hallways have purpose, they are assigned
Dark alleys for the maligned of mankind
Betrayal enshrined, a memory, a visual rendering
The battle lost, there is no surrendering
Trust is vanquished, defeated, without virtue
Exile, no forgiveness, for those that hurt you
Vulnerability, a malicious and worthy foe
Inconceivable how damaging, a mighty blow

Intertwined corridors, a virtual maze
Encumbering images, a poetic haze
Intellectual torture or crippling thought
Painful or joyous introspection taught

Committed enslavement, unbreakable knot
Nightmare or dream this cerebral plot
An unjust memorial to those without merit
Judean treason, negative Karma to inherit
An illicit agenda, fact or fiction?
False accusation and unfair depiction?
A minds' eye can be all knowing
Be forewarned, the seeds you're sowing

    Edit:
There was very little to edit. I only questioned the last two lines actually.

A minds eye can be all knowing
Be forewarned, the seeds your sowing

Since you're saying the mind HAS eyes implying ownership I believe there should be an apostrophe.

the seeds you're sowing. Not your.

Other than that, another A plus from me. Brilliant work. Great vocabulary as per usual and the subject, along with the title, were perfect for you to work with. Overall, this deserves a five.
