Honor~....

On September 11, 2001, terrorists attacked our nation,
We lost many lives and we were told not to fret.
Our government got busy and had no hesitation,
Because they started a war they will regret.

One day a man received a letter,
It said he would be sent to war.
Tears in his eyes, he knew God would make it better.
His little girl came running through the door.

It was her seventh birthday,
She asked what was written.
The words in his mouth he could not begin to say,
For her gift all she wanted was a kitten.

As he sat the family down,
He kept thinking it wasn't going to be easy.
Everyone had a smile that would soon turn to a frown,
As he started to speak he felt queasy.

When they heard the about the news,
Everyone began to cry.
The little girl couldn't put together the clues,
They kept thinking this could be the last good-bye.

The Lil girl still didn't know what was going on,
Her dad tucked her into bed.
He was leaving at the break of dawn,
When he woke up, she was up instead.

He told her he had to go away for a while,
She grabbed ahold of his leg.
He told her not to cry but smile,
Screaming and crying she began to beg.

"Daddy please don't go"
Tears began rolling down his face.
He held her and began to tell her so,
That the Lord would show him grace.

As he drove away she ran out the door,
Waving good-bye and tears being shed.
The moments with her dad, she just wanted more.
At night she would not sleep nor rest in bed.

She told her Mom she wanted to be up for him,
When he came home she would be there.
The sun would rise and at night the lights would dim.
All day she would just look out the window and stair.

Years went by and he was nowhere in sight,
She would always be scared for him so she would pray.
She still couldn't sleep peacefully at night,
They were told he would be back in May.

The month was coming to an end,
He still wasn't at home.
At the door a man said, "I'm so sorry, he was my friend."
She went outside to look and roam.

He wasn't there, no one else around,
She feel to her knees and began to scream.
She was numb and couldn't make a sound,
To her it was all a bad dream.

It was time for the funeral service,
She took her cat with her and got ready.
She was to say a speech and was getting nervous,
As she was saying it, she kept thinking slow and steady.

"I loved my dad, and I miss him a lot,
He was taken from me, now there's a hole.
The love from a father can never be bought,
He will be with me forever in my soul."

When it was all over her knew life began,
She had to get used to stop waiting.
She knew her father was a well-respected man,
The memories of him would never begin fading.

She was out of school, she wanted to follow in her fathers footsteps,
She wasn't prepared for what was ahead.
She became an army nurse, to her it was a mountain of many steps,
It soon became a job that she never did dread.

Everywhere around her someone else's dad was dieing,
The nightmares she would see were unimaginable, so unreal.
She could hear the screams, the prayers, and all the crying,
Memories of pain kept coming back, she knew how those families would feel.

She helped so many, but not all could be saved,
Every night she would be more heart broken, and bowed her head in shame.
The faces of those lost soldiers were forever in her mind engraved,
She knew they did not do this for wealth or fame.

Being a nurse, she still wanted to do more,
She joined the army and was a woman of many.
She thought this way she could save more lives, and a new faith would restore,
It took strength and will to be a soldier, not everyone could do it, not just any.

When she stepped onto the war ground it was different area,
She saved her first victim and felt honored and strong.
Their victims to be saved had many diseases such as malaria,
They thought she couldn't do it, they were wrong.

She became close to everyone, they were divided in crews,
You never knew who was coming back, or who would live.
At night you could hardly sleep, you had to stay alert, you would always remain in two's.
Everyday, every hour, every minute, you had to have hope to strive.

One day, her crews plane was bombed, no one survived,
She did this to honor God, her father, and her nation.
The memories of her father is how everyday she thrived,
For all those soldiers, freedom was their dedication.

She was buried right by her dad, her lil' girl was going to say a speech,
" I love my mom, she was a soldier, a honor.
She wasn't selfish and she would help those who couldn't reach,
I will never forget the stories of my granddad, and live those of my mother, follow in her footsteps and my country I will not dishonor."

Never forget the forgotten, help those who have fallen, and pray for those struggling to live,
Remember those who died, they died for something, our independence of life.
They gave so much but had so little, just like what Christ did for us, so why are we too selfish to give?
Never forget that those soldiers were someones father, husband, mom, or wife.
