Unchain the Night

by Daisy if you do   May 22, 2008

Darkness fades, a new morn has broken
Unchain the night with words unspoken
Through eyes united two lives had begun
Nary a word e're slipped from the tongue

Weathered hands that once consoled
Clasped together with stories untold
Knowing that life held no guarantee
Intense stares replayed each memory

Forty five years of holidays shared
Many a trial and tribulation were bared
Forty five years as husband and wife
Promise of reunion in the after life

Hopes of future flee with each breath
Silent goodbyes as eyes close in death
Darkness fades, a new morn has broken
Unchain the night with words unspoken

** This poem was written for a contest with song titles. It was inspired by the death of my father in law on April
26th, 2008. He and his wife had been married for forty five years and as we gathered to his bedside in the early hours of the morning knowing the end was near. There was a look that transpired between my father and mother in law. No words were spoken, it was just silent goodbyes.

To have someone understand your thoughts with but a glance...to love enough that words are meaningless....what a rare and beautiful gift. One I fear that may soon cease to exist...
