Confused

Why do you have to understand me?
And yet, not know me at all?
Why do you make me smile?
But at the same time cause my tears?
Why can you somehow mend my heart?
And still be the reason it's in pieces?
Why is it that you are the reason I'm breathing?
But because of you I am about to die?
