A Mother's Prayer

by TheBarefootedCowgirl   Aug 4, 2008

The moon shines through the window
as i watch you sleep tonight
you're laying there so peacefully
the moon shines through so bright

i kiss your little forehead
cover your precious toes
pull up the blankets to your chin
and tweak your little nose

i get down on my knees
beside your toddler bed
i rest one hand on your tiny one
and my other on your head

"dear Jesus" i pray "please hear me
Father watch over my darling child
You gave her to us for a reason
and a lifetime seems such a short while

"she's a princess, she's your child
a daughter of the King
Father may she keep herself pure
for the man who will give her a ring

"let her never compromise
pleasure for true love
innocence is a special gift
a one-time gift from Above

"help her remember she's a jewel
a light for all to see
may everyone see You in her
wherever she might be

"and Lord may she always know
both hard work and good times
to strengthen and to shape her
and let her dream big dreams

"i pray she follows after You
and always is a woman
who loves You with every bit of her heart
in Jesus' name, amen."

the moon shines through the window
as i watch you sleep tonight
you're laying there so peacefully
the moon shines through so bright
