Second best

by Espoirfailed   Aug 4, 2008

When you said you didn't want to be "second best"
I guessed you knew that neither did I.
Tonight the moon is hanging ominously low in the sky.
Still, I trusted you like a boomerang.
But it was one that never came back.
I suppose I should have known that I could never have thrown it right.
So as you take flight, watch out for that moon.
I know you'll be landing conveniently outside her door sometime soon.
Well, I've needed you before and you were kind of sparse.
I don't know what I expected this time
But bohemianism always got the better of me.
And second chances were always someone else's mistake.
It's always that bit harder to get up the second time round.
To be fair, I'm not quite sure if I'll bother.
Your eyes always show me something vaguely familiar
I know I've had this feeling before.
I'm fully aware you use that to your advantage.
When you asked me if I trusted you,
I was sure there was irony in there somewhere.
I couldn't have been more wrong.
Now I need your warmth and I won't kid myself that you're on your way.
I've got so much that I have to say.
Well, your ears aren't here to listen.
She may need you tonight but I bet I need you more.
