Teardrops

by Prince Jared   Aug 21, 2008

Raindrops run down my window
It's been raining for three days now
My hands grip the painted window sill
As I wait for my world to slowly still

The Letter was delivered yesterday
It was worn and dog-eared terribly
The bearer was smartly dressed in uniform
His news would send my world to hell

The Letter was addressed to Mama
She opened it with trembling fingers
She read the words silently to herself
And then fell down onto the floor

Raindrops run down my window
It's been raining for five days now
I can't tell the difference between
Teardrops and raindrops on my window sill

"Ma'am, we're sorry to inform you that
Your husband has been killed in action
He was a brave man and we regret his loss
His remains will be flown in on Tuesday."

Raindrops run down my window
My daddy's been dead for one week now
My teardrops mix in with the raindrops
As I wait for my world to slowly still

~Dedicated to all families who have lost a soldier~
