What can be gained from a love that is lost?

by Ingrid   Oct 3, 2008

Soon, very soon now the first snow will fall,
turning the landscape into a place of perfect serenity
On the frozen ground of the forest,
my faithful companion and I will walk
As we do on this bitterly cold and clear October day
And while she studies the ground and its inhabitants
my mind wanders off
Contemplating on the many loves once mine and lost again
What can be gained from this never ending circle of joy and despair?
One cannot step into the same river twice,
for life is an endlessly changing continuum
and love its driving force
Suddenly it dawns on me,
on this early morning walk:
As two souls touch upon each other
Their energies combine and a part of their essence
stays within the other and enriches their existence
Some relationships last a lifetime,
when the two souls sing in perfect harmony
Others get brushed away by the hands of time,
leaving their mark upon the hearts of those involved
Everything happens for a reason,
this we must believe and trust upon fate
to bring us what we need to grow spiritually
Even if it does not last for all eternity

Written for a contest, based on this quote:
"Better to have loved and lost, than to have never loved at all."
-St. Augustine

^^ i really love how you worded that like seriously it was perfect and really caught my eye its so true to so many ppl worry about things they have no control over if you cant change it why worry about it the past can't be re written no matter how hard you try or how long you wish for it

great job i loved how it started off like it was going to be a story about the couple like in a narrative way but you did more of a abstract way of describing it i loved it : ) 5/5

Everything happens for a reason, well I like to think so!

I like how you have taken a quote and writtne your own interpretation on it. It is so true as well...I know that I have loved and lost. Question, would I do it again, yes of course I would. Our experiences good and bad make us who we are and I believe in time the potentially perfect partner for our yet life mate.

    Well done Ingrid
