Happy Birthday To Me

by Beautiful Chaos   Oct 3, 2008

One year older,
Happy birthday to me,
Do I look any different?
What do you see?

Do I seem somewhat wiser?
Has there been a big change?
Am I found more alluring?
Or truly more strange.

Do I look over 30?
I still feel 18,
We'll say 25,
And fall in between.

I love my gray hair,
My wrinkle free face,
You'll still find some youth,
That time can't erase.

Candles are burning,
In cake where they're trapped,
Cards all lay open,
Presents unwrapped.

One birthday wish,
Is all that remains,
My deepest desire,
Is what it contains.

I can't say just what,
Or it will not come true,
Here's hoping next year,
I wish something new.

    I love this piece!
I never stumble on special-event poems, but this one I have to say was a bit capturing.

People write about their lonely birthdays, or their surprising birthdays, but this one was different.
Well written and I think I don't have to pick my fave stanza =)

    "One year older,

I love how you tag on the questions at the end. Everytime I begin to read one of your poems, I always am drawn in completely by your word choice and how captivating it is, nice job! :)

    "Do I seem somewhat wiser?

I think we really do ask ourselves this in our mind, and you captured that flawlessly.

Good job, take care, 5/5 from me. Keep writing, always and forever...
