A Night of Love

by Sylvia   Nov 30, 2008

Lights turned down low, candles are lit,
casting flickering shadows upon the wall.
Champagne chilling, soft music playing,
chocolate covered strawberries will enthrall.

Fire in the fireplace, warming the room.
Bear skin rug, soft and cozy, waiting for you.
Plans for a night of romance and ecstasy,
incomplete without you, my darling, it's true.

Watching the clock with much anticipation,
dreaming of the pleasures that I have contrived.
Pacing the floor and checking the time,
pulling back the curtain to see if you have arrived.

It's midnight now, candles have burned down,
the music silenced, champagne is warm, you see.
Dreams have been shattered again by you.
Through my tears I know, a night of love is not to be.

Beautiful but sad. Love gives us so much pain as well as pleasure.

Wow Sylvia such a heart wrenchingly sad poem dear, a very emotional write, one that seems to have been written with a rather vivid image in mind.
    Well written

I couldn't help but have tears. I went through this only months ago, with a lame excuse for the no show. Last time I saw him and now I'm so perfectly happy about it lol
You wrote this with such heart, and so beautifully. It's a poem going into my favorites.

I love the scene you have painted here so vividly, Silvia! It is perfect for a romantic evening! I am sorry he didn't show up, but reading your words, I feel it is his loss;)

    Hugs,
