Christmas Gifts

You can listen to my recitation of my poem here, accompanied by myself on the guitar, playing Greensleves

Who needs mistletoe?
My lover's lips
Are all the invitation I need
To feed on those sweet sugar plums
Oh so greedily

A sparrow on a bare branch
Is caroling for me
"Commonplace" I hear you say
Still, it wears the face of God
As it ornaments this tree

With warm hearts and crinkly eyes
Friends shake me from my wintry mood
Like merry multi-colored lights
They brighten up my dark nights
My gloominess - subdued!

These are the things I hold in my heart
These are the melodies that make up the songs
That play within me, that play without
These are the gifts of Christmas
I open all year long
