Pieces of Paper

Pieces of Paper

Certificate of birth adorned with apostille
Rhyming books about Jack and Jill
Practice alphabet for writing names
Tic Tac Toe and memory games

Passing notes to check yes or no
Written test to seek what you know
Sunday morning comics in daddy's lap
Coloring sections to learn a map

Diaries with secrets to never tell
Progress reports record pass or fail
Learners permit, title to a clunker car
Diplomas defining who we are

Checking account, payroll stub
Running a tab at the local pub
Vacation brochures for the lake
Parking tickets from spring break

Marriage license, mortgage note
Precinct card in order to vote
Cutting coupons for a block of cheese
Grandmothers treasured recipes

Through history a story they tell
From moment of birth to final farewell
Pieces of paper too many to name
Defining our lives recording our name

I like the journey you have taken us on here, from dawn till dusk, youth till old age with our story stored on paper, a road map of memories, unfortunately most of mine have been thrown in the bin, but I'm hanging on to snippets of my kids! Good rhyme and rhythm, thought provoking, well done.

An awesome write Kay, The rhyming is perfect. The message oh so true, my worst nightmare...paper. and yet in some ways so important. Those little memories to pull out later and prove to us that it really happened! Excellent!

I still have so many of those pieces of paper stored in a box in the closet. Bringing them out sometimes and holding each one and remembering .

    Great job!
