The Black Ash

There is a person behind the opinion
There is a bleeding soul behind the cold eyes
There is a broken heart behind that bent smile
There is a love lost behind that beautiful mind

It's not a choice
It's part of your voice
The human race can't keep pace
With this world's mercurial haste

Once so intelligent and wise
Now charred with the arrogance that comes with conviction
And disgraced by the downtrodden
Crumbling away in the degradation of human waste

Diamonds exist in the impenetrable rough
But getting through is too tough
It's easier to hide from the squalor of city streets
Watching this generation surrender to death and bleed

Sit back and enjoy your comfortable life
With your three kids and your pretty wife
Ignore the mind-numbing indigent "swine"
Blind yourself with fancy wine

Remember though as you lie peacefully in your bed
Little children rotting in your head
"Murderer! Murderer!" They scream
As the black cloud of ash seethes

Will you be remembered as the man who bled for them?
Or the man who ran from them?

The man who was too cowardly to take a stand
The man who was too weak to lend a helping hand
Or The man who waged war
Who sacrificed his life to make this world better than it was before

Now fall to your knees and pray
Pray for humanity
Pray for a way out
Make an answer
Ignore self doubt
