SOMETHING TO BE PROUD OF

My mom told me many times,
How times used to be hard.
How she had to walk miles and miles,
Just to arrive on time...
She spoke of the hard work,
That went into each day,
She told me it was her faith,
And the way she always prayed...
That's something to be proud of,
Something to put your head up high for,
That's something to be proud of,
Something to give thanks for...
A pastor preached once,
Of the trials he's had,
And how life hasn't been fair,
And how God always repaired his heart...
He said it's tough out there,
There's nothing easy 'bout it,
Then he prayed for everyone there,
And prayed for love and strength...
That's something to be proud of,
Something to put your head up high for,
That's something to be proud of,
Something to give thanks for...
An old man told his story,
Of how he barely made it by,
How he now and then lost his faith,
But never gave up on life...
He said it's not easy,
To get right back up,
After you've fallen so many times,
But he was strong and never gave up...
That's something to be proud of,
Something to put your head up high for,
That's something to be proud of,
Something to give thanks for...
A soldier comes back home,
But never really comes back alone,
He says he saw him go down
But he couldn't even help...
He pledges allegiance to his flag,
Which isn't a nation under God.
He says he has to go back,
But through it all, he'll be strong...
That's something to be proud of,
Something to put your head up high for,
That's something to be proud of,
Something to give thanks for...
I sit here and think,
Of the struggles I've had,
But it's been nothing at all,
Compared to them...
I stand up high and tall,
Because everything will be okay,
I will never let down my guard,
Because I know I'll be up there one day...
That's something to be proud of,

That's something to be proud of,
Something to give thanks for...

I was listening to "That's something to be proud of" by Montgomery Gentry and wrote this poem! I started to think that there's so much we take for granted and so many people we never give thks to...But they will receive there award once they get up there! Enjoy!!=]
