Day Dreaming

by Danielle   Apr 4, 2009

I find the inability to go to sleep,
Frustrating

I can't settle my mind.
The cigarettes keep burning
My eyes remain alert.
Mr. Sandman,
Won't you send me a dream?
Don't make it cute,
Just let it divert my alert thoughts.
Cast my mind into a deep slumber,
No matter how evil or insane
As long as it's a dream,
Where my eyes are closed,
No longer stiff from staring at the idle clock
That doesn't seem to let time pass by.
My cigarette burns out.
Why can't I?

At least for the night.
