A fight he couldnt win

He still remembers
Every single word
That fell from her mouth
For the very first time

All the moments together
Every smile and every tear
The smell that lingers
From her presence

No longer here
Where has she gone
He made too many mistakes
He did her wrong

She told him before
He didn't listen
She left without warning
Her eyes did no longer glisten

His words where too deep
They hurt her so
She stole back her heart
That she couldn't let him keep

Her image comes to mind
When darkness falls
Sitting waiting maybe
Just hoping that she calls

He writes her a poem
Just to let her know
Yet he hasn't sent them
In case her love has outgrown

He writes all of the words
That he could never say
But it just doesn't compare
To what happened that day

Wishing she'd come back
And walk through that door
Maybe it's a nightmare
That wouldn't last much more

He received the news
She took her life
She'd never come back
He knew he'd lost the fight
