Petey the Penguin

by Sylvia   May 7, 2009

(written for a club contest using at least 15 words from Word Association Threads)

Petey the penguin, has quite an ego.
Petey thinks of himself as suave and debonair.
I'll have to admit he is regal and stately,
a majestic figure dressed in his tuxedo of black and white.

Petey is guilty of over indulgence at times.
He likes his old friend Jose Cuervo, salt and lime,
a glutton when he is thirsty.
It's no wonder Petey falls over when he tries to walk.
He lays there on the ground, rolling around, trying to right himself.
Is this my fate, my destiny, to die here on the lawn?
Inch by inch, holding onto a rock, he gains his feet.
He is bruised, how he does ache and suffer.

After a night out, senses dull, head on his pillow
he tries to remember, did I really see a rainbow around the moon
and a naked lady in the forest, bathing with a loofah.
Did I take a ride on a rocket ship with a flame on the side?

The morning after, Petey pleads and promises, through his tears,
Please Dear Lord, make me feel better,
and I promise this is the final time I will be so ignorant.
If you will grant me this, a new chapter in my life will begin.

Soon Petey begins to revive,
once again feels hungry and thirsty.
Petey remembers the promise he made,
but that shot of Tequila looks mighty tempting.
Just one, he says with my friend, Jose Cuervo.

    Sylvia,
I loved your story. Thank you for entering the contest. I know how difficult it was in meeting the challenge of using preselected words from the list. I fell in love with little Petey the moment I read this. It was quite a delightful little read and I love to read things that are cheery and funny. Great Job,
    Take Care,
