An old friend

An old friend

Well I'll crack this brew and we'll have a chat
I've missed you lad do you know that?
All these Sundays and there have been a few
No one knows they've been spent with you

So tell me JP do you like my bike?
It's ten months old and the type I like
I've done many miles on the open road
a sweeter ride you'll never know

I wonder what your dad would say
If he saw me visiting you this way
I'm sure he would chuckle and join us two
he would sit beside me and share a brew

Well lad its always good when I visit you
I've had four brews and left you two
beneath your headstone like I always do
I'll be on my way now, be seeing you

Yes I'll rev my bike lad, I'll salute your grave
I'll do this for you, as I go away
I'll keep my promise that I made to you
I hope you can see me, as I believe you do

JP died 4 years ago he was in a motorcycle accident and
he died 2 months later in hospital from his injuries.
Above is something I do about once a month or so,
and it is one of the most pleasant visits, which I always look
forward too. Although it leaves me feeling sad, it always
clears my head. I'll never forget him.

This is indeed an exceptional write... that just touches the heart. It left me feeling those goosebumps.. (not poems do, lol ), and a tear in my eye. It is a most beautiful tribute to your dear friend.. and I love how your poem has a touch of sadness..yet happy reminisce in it. You did amazing on what must have been a hard write in memory of such a good friend who died in this way, LOL

    Take care.

    Grant,

This is such a sad poem and a reminder of how dangerous motorbikes can be, or should I say, how vulnerable you bikers are by 'us' car drivers who often pay little attention to bikes.
The flow, rhyme and emotion here are as usual great. Your poems are always a pleasure to read.

    Take care
