In the back of my mind

In the back of my mind
you are always there,
sometimes silent,
mostly unaware.

You live your life...

I don't even recall
life before you,
everything changed
and I changed too.

You made your choices...

Somewhere along
the way we pursued
an error was made
and born was the feud.

You made a new start...

But both of us,
we feel the emptiness,
the hurt that cuts deep,
the pain and the loneliness.

You live on smiling...

I told you to do whatever
it takes to feel happy again.
Never thought it would
include leaving this woman

behind.

    It's always sad when a relationship breaks apart.The one left standing alone feels it most in the pit of their heart.
    But the memory and keepsakes of the heart continues to dwell in the back of our minds.

    Such sadness emanated from each word. Letting go is the hardest of all. To feel that person drifting from you and know that you must release them. To be the one standing alone is painful.
    An emotional piece, written with heart.
