With Beauty Comes Loss

26.12.99

Laughter could be heard from the house
Red roses in the garden, dancing ladies on the street
Beauty is all around as the festivities begin
The sound of drums comes
Thundering to the beat of my heart

I danced around with glee
Feeling loved; loss never once crossed my mind

He came out and took my hand
Twirling me in my pretty dress
Until I hit that beautiful place they call Vertigo
He hugged me close
Covering me, giving me protection
My small hands wrapped around his neck
Looking small and fragile
Lending me his strength

I thought that I would live forever

My eyes fluttered close as I landed on wonderland
Time wasted away and I woke up to reality

Screaming replaced happy voices
Panic apparent as doors slammed
Innocent dream turned to complete nightmare
Innocent eyes caught the chaos
Cold feet thundering down the stairs
Ears following the violent commotion

As the door opened silence came

The sky was the color of indigo
The moment my tears began to flow

Lying on middle ground
His face failing, his lips cold
Like a broken something my mind couldn't mold
Words failed as my world shut down
Everything I knew came crashing to the ground

I looked at his beautiful face
Then lost myself completely
Like a great tragedy laid in front of me

The festivities died that morning
Happiness replaced with mourning
Something loved now long gone;
His soul vanished in to the predawn

This is something I wrote about the events of Boxing Day 1999. My brother was murdered only a few hours after christmas ended. The events of that boxing day morning will forever stay with me. Hope you are in a wonderful place now Emerson.
