She Carries the Torch

by Christy   Aug 15, 2009

The fire blazed, the fire burned,
Her heart dropped, her heart churned.
He would think of her then soon forget,
All the things she'd try and never quit.

She had a love that was sincere and true
But he had a love for friends of two.
People told her to get him off her mind
But the love she had, she couldn't leave behind.

When she finally wanted to let her feelings go free,
She looked across the room to find him on one knee.
He was proposing to the girl that she had called "friend"
Now she sees why with her his heart wouldn't mend.

She walked away with her heart set on fire,
For the love he and her friend had would never tire.
Forever, she'll be left carrying the torch,
And forever, her heart will be left scorched.
